Palladium on styrenedivinylbenzene copolymer(SDB) as one type of hydrophobia catalyst had been obtained by applying an immersion preparation method. Pd-NSDB catalysts can convert the hydrogen into liquid water well in a hydrogen-oxygen trickle-bed recombiner system that uses liquid water as the coolant at the ambient temperature. A recombination efficiency >99.9% at a space velocity of 0.88L HI* mirf'* L"1 catalyst is routinely obtained for periods exceeding three months in laboratory studies. Preliminary activity evaluation and catalyst screening were performed in a stainless steel tubular reactor with 25mm diameter and 150mm long. The activity of hydrophobic catalyst is affected by carrier and preparation technology. The results show that NSDB is better carrier of preparing hydrophobic palladium catalyst. The influence of reduction time, reduction temperature and metal loading of preparing catalysts on activity was studied. The lifetime of hydrophobic catalyst of hydrogen-oxygen reaction were also researched.Current applications will range from off-gas treatment systems for nuclear fuel reprocessing plants and nuclear reactors to purification of electrolytic hydrogen or oxygen and removal of airborne tritium. The catalyst was characterized by SEM / XPS / liquid nitrogen adsorption et al technique.
