The machining of titanium alloys classified as 'difficult-to-machine' materials is being a major problem to be solved in the aerospace industry. The theoretical and experimental researches on high speed machining (HSM) of titanium alloy TA15 and β21s, were reported systematically in the thesis. The main deformation characteristic is shear localization, which has important influences on various physical phenomena and tool wear in machining process. Empirical equations on cutting force in HSM of titanium alloys with carbide tools have been established. The researches were made on the tool wear form and wear mechanism in HSM of titanium alloys with carbide tools. Diffuse wear and adhesion wear play important roles in tool wear of HSM of titanium alloys. The analysis was carried out on the machined surface integrity .The results have shown that HSM is a good way to improve surface integrity in the machining of titanium alloys. The cooling effects were analyzed by comparing with varied cooling methods. The result has showed that the air-oil cooling is an effective method in HSM of titanium alloys.
