The Oscillatory Flow Reactor (OFR) is a new type of chemical process equipment, which shows good performance in mixing, heat and mass transfer, and in which the characteristics of transfer processes are easy to control. It has great potential of wide uses in chemical engineering, such as particles suspension and separation, flocculation, filtration, chemical reactor, etc. OFR has attracted great interests of researchers in chemical engineering. Some fundamental studies have been carried out on OFR, and many useful results have been achieved. In this thesis, CFD method has been used, on the base of successful simulation of 3-dimensional oscillatory flow field, to simulate numerically the injection dispersion of tracing particles in an OFR. The study focused on the motion of tracing particles and the evolution of non-uniformity of particle concentration in the cases of zero net flow, St =1.0, and Re0 = 200, 250, 500 respectively, number of tracing particles =1000, and single cell.It is the first time to implement the numerical simulation of particle injection dispersion in the 3-dimensional flow field in OFR with Lagrangian description to treat motion of particles, and to obtain quantitative results of the evolution of particle concentration distribution, which should provide a very helpful base for further research work.
