Ecosocialism stands out from all those current ecological movement and "ism". Its design is to explain the current ecological crisis with socialist theory, so as to find out a realistic way to socialism. As a theory, ecosocialism is one of the directive thoughts of European left ecological movement, is the "Green" thought with most "Red", is the most "pioneer" and radical ecological movement. As a movement, ecosocialism constitutes the most radical wing of European left ecological movement, and this distinguished it from the other factions and groups in ecological movement. And in this paper, ecosocialism would be studied from three parts as following. The first part is the introduction of the general development of ecosocialism. Ecosocialism engendered from the Green ecological movement that rose in 1970s. In brief, the school of ecosocialism experienced three generations in its historical development. The first generation is the "ecological Marxist" whose representatives are Rudolf Barrot and Andre Gorz in 1970s. As communists, they turned to or even took part in Green Party. This was considered that the Red (the Communist Movement) turned Green. And the typical characteristic of their political way is "from Red to Green". The representatives of the second generation are William Lewes and Ben Agger in 1980s. Their theory embodied the combination of Marxism and Green thoughts, and the typical characteristic of their political theory is "the blend of Red and Green". The representatives of the third generation are David Pepper and Reiner Grundmann, from the end of 1980s. As a whole, the characteristic of their theory is to make the Green movement "turn Red" (turn to communism). Then the main theoretical viewpoints of ecosocialism would beexamined. This thesis would be discussed from those question involved as following. The first is the relationship between Mankind and Nature. Ecosocialists advocate using the method of Marxism to reconsider the relationship between Mankind and Nature. They emphasized that the unification of Mankind and Nature should be harmonious. The second is the source of the ecological crisis. Ecosocialists suggested that the essential cause of the crisis could not be imputed to the new power of production, but should be imputed to the capitalist institution. The third is the tactic and the way of social change. Ecosocialists believe that the main tactic to realize ecosocialism is the principle of nonviolence, and the leading force of this revolution is the intellectual who has the ecological consciousness and revolutionary enthusiasm. The fourth is the tentative thoughts for future society. Ecosocialists advocate the integration of ecological principle and socialism, and bring forward the way of the ecological socialist modernization, that is, to constitute a future society that has the ecological harmony and the social justice. At last the influence of ecosocialism would be discussed. As an ideological trend of socialist theory, ecosocialism has put forward lots of valuable suggestions and thoughts, which are beneficial to the modernized construction of our country. But ecosocialism has not become a completely systematic theory yet; there are still a lot of inadequacy and limitations in it. Therefore, we should comprehend this theory in an all-round way, and adhere to the scientific socialism simultaneously, so as to make valuable contribution to the sustainable development and the modernized socialist construction of our country.
