In recent years, the increasing shortage of raw material, in particular, the problems of environmental pollution and energy consumption facing the domestic pulping and papermaking industry, makes people attach great importance to re-utility of recycled fibers, namely waste paper. The rapid increase in utility rate of waste paper is an important tendency in the international papermaking industry Secondary fibers as an important fiber source can not only alleviate the paradox between the lack of papermaking raw materials and energy consumption, but also play essential role in keeping up the ecological balance by decreasinng the environmental pollution problems.Damage mechanism of paper, a newly deveoped science, combines the damage theory with the paper strcture. In this paper, damage theory is further introduced to study the degradation of fiber and paper property.Firstly, the changes in property of recycled fibers and paper were studied. Fiber properties such as fiber length, strength, DP and crystallization and those of paper such as tensile, tearing strength, and RBA are analyzed. The series of changes ultimately were caused by hornification of recycled fibers. Therefore, the hornification problems of recycled fibers including the affecting factors, occurring rules , that sort of things were then studied. In the meaning time, the ways of resolution of hornification were discussed, from which some mechanisms and reasons of it were observed. In the end, damage theory was introduced. The damage factors suitable for recycled fiber damage were defined elementally, with which evolvement rules of paper strength with damage variables were studied. Here, the environmental damage-aging due to heat was simply involved.
