The paper studied how to attain the distribution regulation of welding residual stress in thickness plate by finite element method. The welding plate is 48 mm in thickness , which is welded by v-shape groove butt weld form. The No. of the material is 07MnCrMoVR(its factory No. is WDL610D),which is produced by the WuHan steel corporation. The subject establishes model of the finite element based on the welding plane, and select the element according to welding sequence by comparing the center coordinate of the elements which are in the weld area, In the subject the welding process is simulated by means of the unit's living and dying technique, as well as the coupling function between heat and structure in the ANSYS software. The simulation results about the welded residual stress are almost identical with the measuring results by testing methods. The paper offers the three dimensional distribution curves of residual stresses along different directions. The conclusions are as follows: The residual stress is probably the most on the top & bottom surface of plane, even is probably in the location 5mm away from top surface of plane. Because the weld is stacking, the transverse stress on the bottom surface of plane will become very high, so much as exceeding the longitudinal stress. The residual stress in steel structures can directly influence their ability of bearing loads. Therefore, it is an important subject to accurately estimate the mechanical behavior and the residual stresses in the welding structures, ensuring their safety. The test methods of measuring the residual stress are often by cutting or boring which not only take more time and more work, but lead to a greater error owing to many factors. The paper calculates the residual stresses through the finite element method, which overcomes the shortages of the test methods, and can testify the measuring results of the testing methods as well. Sothe research result is important to science research or engineering application.
