The various waste water has its different properties, therefore the method for treating waste water is different. A biological treatment technology can only remove the organic pollutant from the waste water which can be degraded by biochemical method, and remove COD and colourity in the waste water limitly. Chemical method of treating waste water need to add chemical reagents, such as oxidant, coagulant, and so on. It is complicated for subsequent process, the cost is high, apt to produce the second-time pollution. Electrochemical method of treating the waste water does not generally need to add the chemical reagents and the equipment used is small. Furthermore, there is little occupation of land, easy to handle and little amount mud remained, It is known as clean removal or the environmental friendly technology generally. But electrochemical method has shortcomings of heavy energy consumption and side-reaction of oxygen and hydrogen evolution, etc. for a long timeThe methods of treating starch waste water have been reviewed, and the advantages and disadvantages of different methods were analysed. Preparation and performance determination for DSA electrode are discussed and that the electrocatalytic oxidation of the waste water is a indirect process in the presence of hydroxyl radical was found. Effect factors of method for treating the starch waste water are analyzed. Theoptimum condition of treating waste water by the electrocatalytic method was sought, and the current problem urgently waiting to be solved is pointed out. Finally, the perspective of the electrochemical catalytic oxidation method for starch waste water treatment is overlooked.Through studying on the pretreatment experiment in earlier stage of the starch waste water, the optimum condition of the coagulating treatment for the starch waste water was drew. Removal of the organic pollution attained the maximum extent and the waste water after pretreatment helps the electrochemical catalytic oxidation method to degrade the organic pollutant more easily. By utilizing the two-dimentional electrolytic cell the effect factors of treatment was observed, These factors include: current density, voltage of cell, pH, distance of electrodes. The optimum conditions are followed: Electric current density was of 8.0mA/cm2, cell voltage 4.0V, pH 8.0 and the shorter distance of electrodes was favorable .On the basis of results of the two-dimentional electrolytic cell, the three-dimensional packed bed electrode is manufactured and preliminary research was conducted too. Under the condition of three-dimensional electrolytic cell form, with electric current 1.0A, cell voltage 15.0V, pH 8.0, and proportion of conductive particles 3/4, the optimized removal ratio of COD attained 55.6%.
