The metallurgical effects of existing LF, VD and CAS-OB refining processes at Jiuquan Iron & Steel Co. are systematically analyzed, presently, CAS-OB is only used to heat the low-temperature liquid steel produced by converter. Its heating velocity is quick, but the operating cost is higher. VD is mainly used to remove [H] from liquid Steel, the effect is very well, and the temperature drop is obvious. Due to several causes, the refining effects of LF pracess which has multifunction, especially deeply-desulphurization and deoxidation, are not satisfactory since going into production.Because the LF process is of great importance to modify the constitution of steelmaking products, We center around increasing its refining efficiency and conduct study. Firstly, through a great deal of investigation and study, blowing Ar model experiment and basic research on refining slags, the rational technical parameters and operation conditions are determined. Secondly, the industrial experiment on optimization of refining technology is made. The obvious effects of simultaneous deoxidation and desulphurization are achieved.According to experiment results, the technologic routes of refining and the optimizing models of refining technology for high-grade steel are given.
