The properties of currently used Al2O3-SiO2-C shroud were tested both at lab and at steel plant by changing its formulation and the microstructure of the shroud after dynamic corrosion test was examined by SEM and ED AX. Based on the above study, the effects of changes of fused corundum and fused silica on corrosion or erosion resistance of Al2O3-C based shroud were studied. Meanwhile, the properties of fused corundum based specimens and fused brown corundum based specimens were compared to achieve the optimized property and low cost. The results reveal that the cold crushing strength, cold and hot modulus of rupture of the specimens are enhanced with the increasing of contents of fused white corundum and brown corundum, but the thermal shock resistance deteriorates. The increasing of contents of fused white corundum and brown corundum is beneficial to the improvement of slag corrosion resistance of the specimens, and the corrosion resistance results obtained by static and dynamic corrosion test increase 10%~30% with the contents of fused white corundum and brown corundum increasing from 40% to 60% respectively. Under the same experimental conditions, the properties of fused brown corundum based specimens are better than those of fused white corundum based specimens. Some suggestions for solve program of the followed study are put forward in the paper.
