Coal has the structure of 3-dimension space network with structure units of condensed aromatics. Based on this structure character, two new methods of coal surface modification are introduced in the dissertation. They are radical in-situ polymerization to form polymer chain in coal, and cationic in-situation polymerization to synthesize coal-derived molecular composite material. The radical polymerization utilizes the porousi aromatic structure, the carboxyl and hydroxyl organic groups of coal. The modified coal is analyzed by FTir, TG, XRD, GPC, SEM and BET. The results show that the particle size of coal, temperature of polymerization and the content of initiator affect the efficiency of polymerization. The grafted polyacrylic acid goes up to 1.81g/gcoal.The cationic polymerization is initiated by the complex compound of coal and FeCl3, and the monomers are n-butyl vinyl ether and styrene. The modified coal is analyzed by FTir, TG, XRD, GPC, SEM and BET. The results show that the proportion of the initiator to coal, the treatment of the initiator, the content of monomer can greatly affect the efficiency of modification. The grafted polybutyl vinyl ether goes up to 1.08g/g coal.
