In this paper, taking low-priced and most common natural high-molecular compound corn starch as raw material. The natural corn starch is modified by carboxymethyl reaction, grafting reaction and Mannich reaction to prepare a new amphteric natural polymeric flocculant (CGAAC). The optimum conditions for the preparation of CGAAC are determined by study of influencing factors, the optimum preparing conditions, which are as follows: In carboxymethyl reaction, mole rate of corn starch to monochloro-acetic acid and to sodium hydroxide is 1:1:2, the reaction temperature is 501 and the reaction time is 4 hours; In grafting reaction, weight rate of corn starch to acrylamide is 1:2, the concentration of initiator is 1 10-3 mol/L, the reaction temperature is 601 and the reaction time is 2 hours; In Mannich reaction, mole rate of amidogen to formaldehyde solution and to dimethylamine solution is 1:1:1.5, the reaction temperature is 50 and the reaction time is 2 hours. The flocculation performance of CGAAC is studied in clay containing suspension. When the adding quantity is 4 ~ 10 mg/L, pH of water solution is 5 ~ 10 and the temperature of wastewater is 20 ~ 501, the experimental results show that CGAAC has ideal turbidity removal efficiency. The amphteric natural polymeric flocculant is used to the printing and dyeing water , the wastewater of toilet paper factory and the wastewater of living. The flocculation capabilities are investigated by mensurating the change of pH, chemical oxygen demand (COD) and turbidity. The experiment obtains benign disposalefficiency. The contrastive experimental results show that CGAAC has ideal turbidity removal efficiency and decoloring efficiency , and its flocculation performance is superior to that of cationictype polyacrylamide and polymeric aluminum chloride etc. The experiment proves that CGAAC is a amphteric natural polymeric flocculants which has fargoing applications and excellent performance good qualities.
