It describes the progress of carbon fiber sizing agent and the mechanism of emulsion polymerization in this paper. The emulsion of carbon-fiber-used sizing agent is polymerized by using emulsion polymeriz-ation of epoxide resin, and then is modified by vinyl-acetic ester and crylic acid. It also demonstrates the best proportion of the sizing agent the best process condition of synthesizing the sizing agent and the factors that affect the emulsion's stability. By static precipitation and comparing the effect of different mixed emulsifier to the emulsification, the result shows that the mixed emulsifying agent of OP-10 and T-80 is the greatest. It also investig-ates the application progress of the sizing agent. Applied with new surface-treating method-boil-dippings, the carbon fiber is treated on the surface. The change of the carbon fiber on the surface after and before the treatment is observed by SEM. The oxygen-containing condition of the carbon fiber on the surface is studied by using photoelectron spectra, then it brings forward a new viewpoint that the oxygen-containing condition of the carbon fiber on the surface affects the cementation, and further discusses the mechanism of cementation. The research shows the emulsion sizing agent has better cementation function. After sized, the surface of carbon fiber is smooth and flat which can inhibit the filoplume and the break of fiber, thus, improve its operational performance greatly.
