With a quantity of waste water drained into river, lake and reservoir, ammonium contamination of water environment is becoming an ever-increasing problem , which is responsible for Eutrophication. How to achieve high removal rate of ammonium is the emphasis to researchers. Of three nitrogen removal mechanisms( physical, chemistry and biological mechanisms), biological nitrification and denitrification is the most efficient, cost effective and long-term method. Recentaly, a novel anaerobic process in which ammonium was used electron donorand nitrate was an electron acceptor denitrification was discovered------Anaerobic Ammonium Oxidation (Anammox ) . Anammox has been the researching emphasis mainly because of the three factors: low energy consumption, free organic carbon and simultaneous removal of ammonium and nitrite or nitrate. There have been many research findings about Anammox, but the start-up of Anammox reactor and cultivation and retaining of Anammox microorganism is one of the main problems, which is relevant to the utilization of the novel nitrogen removal process. In this thesis, Anammox in a nitrifying biofilm-reactor cultivated under aerobic condition was studied. Anammox process wasn't operated under anaerobic condition in this test. Effects of Hydraulic Retention Time(HRT), temperature, NH4-N loading and NO2-N loading were investigated. Main test results are as followed.1. There was Anammox process in a nitrifying biofilm-reactor cultivated under aerobic condition. Through this way in the thesis, the start-up of Anammox reactor and cultivation and retaining of Anammox microorganism was achieved.2. The by-product NO3-N was discovered in the effluent, which was probably from NO2-N. Effect of NO3-N production on Anammox was analyzed, and possible measures were raised.
