A simulator named CONCASTING has been developed and used in practice to simulate the temperature of continuous casting billets by the use of software such as Visual C++6.0 , MS Access, MATLAB, OpenGL. The simulator can be used in not only on-line simulate but also off-line simulate, so it can help decide the CC process, optimize the process parameters and cooling process and help the development of casters independently.The system's main body is built based on the popular software of Visual C++6.0,which is object-oriented and visual. The simply and practice database management tool of MS Access is used to realize the background database. So the modules of history data query, the selecting of varies of process parameters and structure parameters is realized and it is easy for data to share and transfer. What's more, Visual C++6.0 can sustain multithread programme. All the above advantages realized the progress in the calculate speed and precision and make it easy both for user to analyse the result and for programmer to programming and manage or maintenance the database.Based on the character of heat transferring in practice, a three-dimensioned unsteady solidification and heat transfer mathematical mold has been established which has been solved by a finite difference method. In the module of pre-proposal, enthalpy method is adopted to deal with the latent heat, and the coefficient is multiplied in dealing with the coefficient in liquid or solid. In order to solve all of the equations, the strong calculation tool of MATLAB is involved.Based on the character of multithreading of Visual C++6.0, the system realized moreover calculation, that is, the dynamic process of drawing the billet is simulating on the client interface, at the same time, the temperature field is calculating in the back. MATLAB is used to solve the three-dimension unsteady temperature field. The commix programme of Visual C++6.0 and MATLAB is realized by a meet programme, which improved the calculation speed and precision and make real-time simulate possible. The dynamic process of drawing the billet is simulated on the client interface by the use of OpenGL. Which can be synchronization with the practice process. So a real process of provision drawing the billet is realized, which help operator control the process.In the module of prevision proposal, dialog box with list box controls is adopted to be the human/compute interface to simplify the operation and reduce the probability of making a mistake. In order to validate the software's practicability and the mathematics model's nationality, with the input of a group of process parameters supplied by Bao Steel, a simulation is made in Bao Steel's billet caster which is the goal caster, and the result calculated by CONCASTING is compared with the goal result calculated by Danniel's in the same conditions. The average error is within 10 percent. The software can be used to guidance the research of continuous casting process and provide reference for the practice production.
