| Considered as the most atmospheric pollutant, the toxicity of SO2 was paid more attention to home and abroad. The changes of oxidative damage system and DNA damage caused by SO2 were paid more attention to in recent years. Based on the early work, we studied the effect of SO2 in the following aspect:The first part, effect of SO2 inhalation on the activities of catalase (CAT) in mice The activity of CAT didn't change obviously in male and female mice at low concentration (22+2mg/m3). With the increased SO2 concentration (64mg/m3) , the activity of CAT descended significantly in liver and lung of male mice (p<0.05). When 148mg/m3SO2 was inhaled by mice, the activity of CAT in liver and lung descended very significantly in male mice and in liver in female mice (p<0.01); the activity of CAT in kidney, brain, testicle in male mice and lung, kidney of female mice descended significantly (p<0.05). But the activity in small intestine of male mice and stomach of female mice increased significantly (p<0.05).The second part, damage effects of SO2 inhalation on DNA of cells in miceAfter exposure to SO2 at different concentration (28, 56, 112 and 168mg/m3), damageeffect of SO2 inhalation on DNA of lymphocyte, brain, lung, small intestine and testicle cellsin mice was studied with the single cell microgel electrophoresis technique (comet assay).The result showed that the comet tails lengthened significantly of lymphocyte, lung andtesticle cells in male mice when treated by SO2 of 28mg/m3 (p<0.05) , comet tails of braincells in the male and female mice and lung cells in female mice increased very significantly(p<0.01) .The comet length in small intestine had no significant change. With the increasedSO2 concentration, the comet tails increased very significantly in every organ (p<0.001) andalso represent dose-effect relationship.The third part, damage effects of SO2 derivative on DNA of brain cells and testicle cells in mice.SO2 derivative could do damage to brain and testicle cells in vitro. Tail lengths of nuclear DNA didn't change obviously in low concentration. But with the increased concentration, tail length increased significantly. Brain cells were damaged more seriously than testicle cells. |
