Along with the economic development, the application of the Organosilicones material is increasingly extensive, Organosilicones are novel materials widely used in the chemical industry. The silicon powder used has a wide particle size distribution and is of non-spherical shape, and it is necessary to investigate the fluidization properties of the silicon powder. The fluidization properties of silicon were investigated in a vitreous fluidized bed with a tapered body of diameter 288 mm and height 3080 mm, in which the cyclone segregator was built to gather the small silicon. Several pressure sensors were used to investigate the pressure fluctuation in the bed, and the power spectrum was analyzed.A simple method is proposed to predict the minimum bubbling velocity from the pressure fluctuations of single and wide silicon powder particle systems of specific particle sizes. The standard deviation of the pressure fluctuation increases linearly with the superficial gas velocity. The minimum bubbling velocity can be determined by extrapolation to zero standard deviation. For the Geldart B particles, the minimum bubbling velocity determined agrees well with the minimum fluidization velocity that determined by the classical method from pressure drop changes. However, for the silicon powder with a wide particle size distribution, which contains the Geldart A particles, the minimum bubblilng velocity and the minimum fluidized velocity is different.A correlation between umf and Ar of the silicon particles was obtained. For the silicon powder particle whose diameter is less than 200 μ m, the relation between the distensibility of the fluidized beds and ug was studied.By CFD techniques, a new fluidized bed was designed, and its performance was evaluated. The results revealed more well-proportioned flow field and better fluidizedquality and more effective heat-transfer could be expected.
