Cup drawing die has been used widely in automobile, tractor, airplane, horologe, electrical appliance and instrument products. It is important to study and develop three-dimensional CAD system of cup drawing die. This not only can improve the design efficiency and quality of dies but also can promote the popularization and development of die CAD.In order to develop a practical, feasible, complete and advanced CAD system of cup drawing die, this paper adopted Windows 2000 Professional as the operating system, Visual C++ 6.0 as the programming tool, UG18 as the graphic processing software and Access 2000 as data base management system. A three-dimensional CAD system of cup drawing die was developed aiming at the content and characteristic of cup drawing dies. In this paper, the main research work made is as follows.The secondary development methods of UG was studied thoroughly and the whole development process was obtained which includes the application program interface of UG18 based on VC++6.0,the customization of user menu bar with UG/Open MenuScript tool, the design of user dialog box with UG/Open UlStyler tool, the creation of three-dimensional model with UG/Open API and the access of the expression of UG and the creation of aided text with UG/Open API functions.On the basis of the above research, the data processing and management methods in CAD system was studied which includes the programmed method of datasheet, the interpolation method of function and data base management system. A new method of access external database with ODBC technique in UG/Open API program was presented. The method is suited to the data processing and management in CAD system because the data is independent of the program and is shared easily.The data flow diagram and the gross structure of the CAD system of cup drawing die was established using software engineering theory. The whole system was divided into four modules including the information input of product module, the process analysis and calculation module, the die design module and two-dimensional drawing generation module. The process analysisand calculation module was divided into 13 submodule again .The die design module was divided into 17 submodule again. The two-dimensional drawing generation module was divided into 3 submodule again. Their module structure was also set up.The implementation technique of the system was studied thoroughly. The menus interface of the system was builded too. A new method of setting up standard parts library was presented using amending the expression of UG with UG/Open API functions. The method can save a great deal of storage space and can generate geometric model with dimensions needed at will, so it can avoid a lot of disadvantage of other methods. The autogeneration technique of title bar and part list was also studied detailedly. The workload of drawing is decreased and the work efficiency is increased.
