Sericite is a new kind of non-metallic mineral filler. It is widely used in the field of high molecular materials and compound materials industry, such as plastics, rubbers and glutinous agents. But sericite is different from organic high polymers in interfacial property, and hard to disperse in them. So it is required to increase the dispersion property and improve mechanic intensity and synthetic capability.In this paper, stearic acid , silane(KH-550), silane(KH-570) are chosen to modify the surface of sericite. The research content includes stearic acid dry method modification and wet method modification, silane dry method modification and wet method modification, the compound modification of silane wet method and stearic acid dry method modification, and silane and stearic acid cooperation modification.The results show that the effect of dry method modification is superior to wet method modification. The compound modification of silane wet method and stearic acid dry method modification combine the advantage of individual stearic acid modification and silane modification. The indices are listed as following: wetting contact angle 140, penetration time 200 minutes, oil absorption contents 1.4, dispersion degree17.5. On the basis of compound modification, silane and stearic acid cooperation modification simplify the modification craft. The indices are listed as following: wetting contact angle 145, penetration time 220 minutes, oil absorption content28.2, dispersion degree18.0. It improves indices, reduces the dose of agents and simplifies the modification craft.Through the mechanism research on surface modification of sericite by infrared absorption spectrum, the result shows that the absorption intensity of stearic acid modification is very weak and easy to divest. The absorption is ascribe to physical absorption. Silane combines with H of hydroxyl on surface ofsericite, The absorption is ascribe to chemical absorption. In silane and stearic acid cooperation modification, C=O absorption peak appears in spectrum and the regional vibration of Si-O-Si becomes wide, which shows the physical absorption of stearic acid and chemical absorption of Silane produce an effect on surface of sericite.The research offers a certain basis for surface modification and deep processing of sericite. It improves the development of exploitation and place economy in Chouzhou, Anhui.
