In this paper, the influence of various gases, such as oxygen, nitrogen, argon etc. on the property changes treated by the plasma is compared first, and then the oxygen is chosen as the work gas. By studying the graft response of the tussah fiber to HEMA under the plasma condition, the factors affecting the graft response under the condition of plasma treatment is discussed, and it is found out that oxygen plasma has the advantage of highly selective graft polymerization. Furthermore, the experiments indicate that optimum conditions for the oxygen plasma treatment on tussah fiber are that the discharge time is 15 minutes, the discharge power is 15 W, the minimum pressure is 5 Pa, and the working pressure is 30 Pa. The parametric study of the graft techniques for the tussah fibers treated by plasma shows that, at the temperature of 45℃, the action in the interior and exterior of the tussah fiber is mainly the graft polymerization, the auto-polymerization of HEMA is not much, and there is no HEMA autopolymer in the graft solution. Therefore, it can be concluded that 45℃ is the optimum grafting temperature.
