The gunship is one of important weapons in modern war, and it acts an importance for the modern war. But it is threatened badly by the ground weapons. Therefore, it is extremely important for the defend armor of gunship to increase its bullet penetrability resistance. SiCp/Al matrix composites, with 5, 15 and 25% volume fraction of SiC particles, were prepared by vacuum hot-pressing sintering processing in this paper. Based on mechanics properties, SEM observation and energy dispersive X-ray analysis, the interface reaction phenomenon of SiCp/Al composites made by vacuum hot-pressing sintering, as well as the reinforcement and fracture mechanisms of this composite were analyzed. The dynamic responses of SipC/Al composites were studied by a split Hopkinson high-speed pressure bar impact system which strain rate was from quasistatic state strain rate (3.3 10-3s-1) to dynamic state strain rate (5.2 103 s-1). The deformation and micro-damage mechanism of this composite were analyzed. The penetrability of grade composite plate made of this composite was determined by high-speed air gun. The results showed that the interfaces strengthen between SiC particles and aluminum would be improved by the interface reaction between them. The fracture of this composite would occur mainly in Al matrix. The tensile strength and elasticity module of SiCp/Al composite, as well as its brittleness would be increased with the increase of volume fraction of SiC particles, but its elongation would be decreased. This composite was sensitive to the strain rate. The strain rate sensitivity would be increased with the increase of volume fraction of SiC particles. The damage mechanism of SipC/Al composites was dominated by the shear cracking of SiC particles along the direction that was vertical to the loading. The penetrability of grade composite plate made of this composite was superior to aluminum plate.
