Plasma display panels (PDP) can be made in large sizes and are expected to be the best candidates for wall-mount display. In order to improve the function of PDP, we have to research tricolor phosphors for plasma display panel.In order to meet the requirement of display technology development, we prepared the red phosphor (Y,Gd)(P,V)O4 activated with Eu3+. By the investigation for preparation technique of the phosphor, the optimum activator concentration, host composition and firing time were established.Compared ( Y,Gd)BO3:Eu with ( Y,Gd)(P,V)O4:Eu, and founded that the color coordinate of ( Y,Gd) (P,V)O4:Eu is better than that of ( Y,Gd) BO3:Eu. The color coordinate of ( Y,Gd ) (P,V)O4:Eu is x=0.660,y=0.340,so it can meet the requirement of PDP.A new surface-modified material MgF2 was coated on red phosphor. Compared the emission spectrum of uncoated phosphor with that of coated phosphor, found that MgF2 did not affected the brightness of phosphor.
