Organic-inorganic layered perovskite materials combine the useful characters of organic and inorganic compounds within a crystalline molecular level, where two-dimensional sheets of [MnX3]2- are separated by organic cations. Getting the useful characters is the purpose of assembling organic and inorganic compounds within a molecular level. Thus the properties of materials and device can be designed and controlled. The initial researches of this kind of materials show that they have unique electrics and optics properties. Organic-inorganic perovskite materials are a type of new functional materials. The general formula of organic-inorganic layered perovskite materials is (RNH3)2(CH3NH3)m-1MX3m+1 or (H3NRNH3XCH3NH3)m-1MX3m+1(m=1, 2, 3, ..., ). In this article we synthesized organic-inorganic layered perovskite materials (CnHjn+1NH3)2MnCl4, (n=2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12) and (H3NC4H8NH3)MnCl4 with solution-based method, which correspond to the simplest material (m=l) of the (RNH3)2(CH3NH3)m-1MX3m+1 and (H3NRNH3)(CH3NH3)m-1MX3m+1. The structure of the powders and the thin films were characterized by X-ray diffraction. The effect of the length of the alkyl amines and the number of amines on the structure and thermal stability of two-dimensional materials was investigated.XRD, IR, XPS and DCS-TG were employed to detect the structure and thermal stability of synthesized compounds. Main contents of this paper include two aspects: preparation of organic-inorganic layered perovskite crystal powder and thin film; the structure characterization and thermal properties analysis of organic-inorganic layered perovskite materialsOrganic-inorganic layered perovskite crystals (CnH2n+1NH3)2MnCl4 (n=2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12) have high orientation. Organic aliphatic chain molecules combine with inorganic templating sheets along c axis in the materials. With the alkyl chain length of organic compounds increasing, d value increases. Considering that the chain length of a normal hydrocarbon increases by 2.52A with twocarbon atoms, the alkyl chain is supposed to be tilted or interdigitated between inorganic layers. The spin-coated films are single-phase and highly oriented with the c-axis perpendicular to the quartz substrates. This type of materials has good thermal stability, and their decomposition points are near 300 C.
