Nano TiO2 is a kind of important inorganic material. It has highly photocatalytic activity and good ability to shield the UV light, and its stabilities in biologic, chemical and optics are predominant. All these reasons make it good prospect in many fields, such as in the treatment of wastewater, air-purified, antibacterial materials, and functional chinaware et al. Although TiO2 has so many good characteristics, it is a pity that its application needs UV light. The expensive UV light depresses the extensive application of TiO2. In order to improve its practicability, many scholars have done many studies to enhance the range of the responding wavelength and great progresses have been made.Cu2O is a new kind of inorganic material; its direct forbidden bandgap is about 2.0eV and it has a high optical absorption coefficient, which implies its theoretical solar cell conversion efficiency is over 13%. In the thesis, nano-size TiO2-Cu2O particle composites were prepared by a novel electrochemical method. It is proved that the nano composites have better superficial peculiarities than nano TiO2 by XPS and DRS. The photocatalytic activities of the composites in degradation of dye brilliant red X-3B were compared with nano TiO2 and the results show that the photocatalytic activities of the composites exceed that of p-25 and the optimum concentration of Cu2O on TiO2 was 3%. What's more, a new kind of paint was prepared using the composites and the paint has better effect of bactericide than other kinds of paint in our experiments.Furthermore, nano-size TiO2 thin film was prepared by sol-gel method on the ordinary glass substrate and the TiO2-Cu2O composite film was got by chemical sediment method. The characters of the film were measured by SEM and UV-Vis absorption. The results prove that the composite film is prior to the TiO2 film in absorption of visible light and in reflectivity of ultraviolet radiation.
