Two aspects of research were studied in this article: 1. The surface of magnesium hydroxide particles was modified by using surface modification agents through in-situ polymerization of styrene, finally Cable jacket compound was prepared by these materials. 2. The mixed material was prepared with wood-power, ABS composites and some add compatilizer.1. The surface of magnesium hydroxide particles were modified by using surface modification agents and the effects on surface characteristic of magnesium hydroxide, applying different sorts and dosage of surface modification agents were discussed. Results indicate the stretching strength of LDPE was obtained enhance when the modified magnesium hydroxide was mixed with ADDP. The physical characteristic of magnesium hydroxide was optimum when the dosage of ADDP reach lwt%. The materials with striking mechanical property and processability were obtained by the composition of the modified magnesium hydroxide and EVA and the result showed that affinity between magnesium hydroxide modified by the in-situ polymerization and EVA was better than non-modified magnesium hydroxide based on the observation of transmission electron microscope. Cable jacket compound is developed on the basis of a lot of experiments and studies of rate between EVA and HDPE, magnesium hydroxide surface treating and dosage, flame retardant agent. The experiments found that the rate of EVA and LDPE is 3:1, the dosage of magnesium hydroxide surface treating is 80 phr , the dosage of flame retardant agent red phosphor is 8 phr and curing aid-agent 5 phr. This kind of compound has good physical mechanical property and excellent flame retardant.2. A series of mixed material were prepared by adding different kinds of compatilizers based on wood-power/ABS composites to improve the physical performance of ABS. Primary research of the influence of vary solubility system and solubility methods on the property of wood-powder/ABS composites were studied. Compared their properties, it is found that ABS-g-MAH and both MAH and St system can improve the properties of Wood-power/ABS mixed material. The effects of PVC content and wood-powder content on the properties of Wood-power/ABS mixed material were studied in this experiment. Compared their properties, it is found that it has better Izod impact strength and tensile strength when the ratio of ABS/PVC content is 3:7, as the ratio of ABS/PVC/ was constant. Then CPE and both CPE and MBS were added into the mixed material as compatibilizers respectively. It was found that CPE can perfectly improve the properties of the mixed material, both CPE and MBS can improve the properties of Wood-power/ABS mixed material.
