The nonlinear analysis has now become an important part of structural seismic design, in which the push-over analysis has attracted the attention of more and more researchers for its merits, and the method has become one of nonlinear analysis tools in Chinese Seismic Design Code. The lessons of Northridge and Kobe earthquake told us: the weld of beam-column welded connection in steel structures is a feeble part which is prone to bittle fracture as an earthquake hanppens. Besides choosing welding materials with good toughness, we shoud try to protect the weld effectively by reducing the stress in weld and moving the plastic hinge away from the weld during the structure design and buiding. This paper presents how the different connection structures affect the seismic performance of beam-column welded connections based on the working statement of the weld. Therfore, the seismic performance of a four-story steel-frame is analysed by SAP2000N/L which possesses push-over analysis function, and the structure is made which can meet the requirement of resisting 7-degree earthquake by strengthening sections of its beams and columns. Meanwhile, the internal force of components and their yield order are made certain under a given vertex target displacement. Then, the different details of beam-column connections are analysed by ANSYS three-dimensional solid element in both elasticity and elaso-plasticity condition, the boundary conditions of which are provided by the SAP2000N/L calculation outcome. At last, some references of beam-column connection design of steel-frame are offered. The study supplys the working statement and yield order of struts in the steel-frame by push-over analysis, and by improving the structure with some feeble areas makes it meet the requirement of resisting 7-degree earthquake. The structure of beam-colunm welded connection affects the bearing-load circumstance of flange weld obviously. Relatively speaking, the slot connection reduces the stress concentration of beam flange weld, and increases obviously the flexible capacity of connections. Therefore, it minimizes the possibility of connection fracture.
