Description of synthesis of Sorbitan monooleate(Span-80). Discussion of the effect of 1.kinds of catalyst 2.reaction time 3.reaction temperature 4.raw material ratio5.quantity of catalyst to the products content. The metal oxide catalysts are studied in this paper. Meanwhile, the metal oxide catalysts are compared with alkali catalyst(NaOH) that is widely used in industry .The method of HPLC is used in determining the composition of the products. The result shows :The medal oxide as catalyst can replace alkali catalyst (NaOH).It can cut down the reaction temperature between 20C~30C,can shorten the reaction time between 2h~3h, can reduce the subsidiary reaction of oxidation in the product, and the ratio of monooleate of the product is 8%~9% higher than the ratio in which NaOH is used as catalyst.Complex catalyst can be used in synthesis of SPAN-80, besides, the ratio of monooleate of the product is 25%~30% higher; mucosity of the product is 8%~11% higher; the reaction time is 2h~3h shorter.
