The synthesis of star-branched butyl rubber(IIR) and star-branched polyisobutylene(PIB) were studied by polybutadiene(PB) with low molecular weight as star-branched agents, which have some bibonds. The cationic polymerizations of butyl rubber and polyisobutylene are different, so that the effects of adding ways. adding time and content of PB on the polymerization of star-branched IIR and star-branched PIB are different. The feasible conditions for two of star-branched polymers were investigated, and the comparison of star-branched polymers and line-shaped ones were analysed by GPC. IR. 1H-NMR and TG. Besides, the polymerization mechanisms were gained, which showed that polybutadiene is by "Grafting onto" method for the synthesis of star-branched polymers.
