Triphenylmethyl derivatives have attracted much attention, this may arise mainly from their bulky group and application to the fieldof polymer and medicine.In this paper, we synthesized four triphenylmethyl substituted olefins——the 3,3,3-triphenylpropene is synthesized by elimination reaction;the 4,4,4-triophenylbut-1-ene and 5,5,5-triphenylpent-1-ene are prepared through couple reaction; and the 2-methyl-5,5,5-triphen-ylpent-2-ene is obtained by wittig reaction. Then two racemic epoxide—5,5,5-triphenyl-1,2-epoxypentane and 2-methyl-5,5,5-triphenyl-2,3-epoxypentane are generated by the olefin reacting with peroxyacid.We carried out asymmetric epoxidation to these olefins in which(salen)manganese(Ⅲ) complexes being used as catalysts. But the 3,3,3-triphenylpropene and 4,4,4-triphenyl-1-butene have nochange under any condition, The epoxide will be obtained by use 5,5,5-triphenyl-1-pentene and 2-methyl-5,5,5-triphenyl-2-pentene assubstrate, but these two epoxides have not optical activity .Thisresult is discussed in this paper.
