Magnetization treating is a kind of new processing for metal surface reinforcement, which developed rapidly recently. The effect of magnetization treating on the tribological properties of metal material is investigated in the paper, through the rolling contact fatigue test and sliding friction & wear test for GCrl5 steel, 45 steel, 42CrMo steel and T10A steel. The result are as follows:1. The contact fatigue life of GCrl5 steel increases 1.1 times and that of 45 steel increases 0.8 times by the method of magnetization treating;2. The wear loss of sliding friction decreases respectively 35.26%, 6.20% and 3.86% for 45 steel, 42CrMo steel and T10A steel by magnetization treating.Through hardness test, SEM microstructure analysis and XRD pattern analysis for the unmagnetized sample and magnetized sample, we find that the flexible consolidation caused by magnetization improves the strength and hardness, thus improves the characteristic of material and decreases the fatigue wear & agglutination wear.Through the test, we think that magnetization treating can improve effectively the wearing capacity, which not only can be applied to tool processing but also can be extended to the processing of metallic rubbing pairs part, such as bearing, gear, and so on .Compared with other surface treating technology, magnetization treating is easy to manipulate, costs less and takes effect quickly, further more has no pollution, so it will be applied broadly .
