A study about the way of automatic generating Mid-plane model in plastic CAE analysisPresently, most of the plastic CAE analysis is 2.5D molding analysis, which is based on mid-plane model or shell model derived from GHS (Generalized Hele-Shaw) flow. The 2.5D molding analysis, which reduces the number of variables during analysis process, use mature method of numerical analysis and develop high efficient CAE software. For thin wall parts occupied the 90% output of molded product, the result of 2.5D molding analysis is very exact. The 2.5D molding analysis assisted by practice experience and expert system will still domain technology market of plastic CAE analysis.The model of part in CAD software is solid molded which is different from the mold used in plastic CAE analysis based on mid-plane model. Users have to construct mid-plane model before CAE analysis. It is significant to find an efficient way to construct a mid-plane model in injection molding simulation.On basis of the investigation of the situation of CAD and plastic CAE software, a way of generating mid-plane automatically from a solid model is brought out in this paper. A Midplane module is programmed using VisualC++6.0 and OpenGL. The following works have been finished:(1) The solid model produced by CAD software is studied. The program exchange data between Midplane module and CAD software by stl file.(2) The mid-plane model of real component is analyzed. The way of generating a mid-plane automatically from a solid mold is brought out in this paper. The program is developed at the same time.(3) The method of developing graphic program in windows environment is studied. The program of graphic transform and third dimension graphic displaying is developed. The CAD and plastic CAE software have been united by this way.(4) The interface of Midplane is designed, so that user can finish the option of getting mid-plane model conveniently.
