The experimental results show that the grain refinement effects of titanium added to pure aluminum by different methods were all very obvious. The grain refinement effect of titanium added by electrolysis is better than that of Al-Ti master alloy when the titanium content is similar. When the titanium content is lower, the grain refinement effect of Al-Ti-B master alloy is slightly superior to that of electrolytic low-titanium aluminum alloys. But when the titanium content is higher, they have almost same grain-refining ability.The grain refinement effect and fading behaviors of titanium added to commercial pure aluminum by Al-Ti and Al-Ti-B master alloy were investigated and compared with that of titanium added by electrolysis. The experiment results show that when titanium content was 0.10% or 0.15%, the fading of grain refinement of titanium added by electrolysis was slower than that of Al-Ti master alloy. After adding Al-Ti-B master alloy into pure aluminum, the grain sizes increase very slightly in the whole holding time and the ability of resisting fading is superior to that above two kinds of refining methods.The grain refinement effect of titanium and boron added to commercial pure aluminum by direct electrolysis is the worst among all the methods mentioned above. In order to quest for a more effective way to refine grain of commercial pure aluminum, Al-B master alloy was added into electrolytic low-titanium aluminum alloys. The result shows that the grain refinement effect can be further improved,especially for the alloys with very low titanium content. At the same time, the grain refinement effect and fading behaviors of Al-B master alloy added to electrolytic low-titanium aluminum alloys were also studied in this paper. The results show that the grain refinement effect and the resisting fading ability of electrolytic low-titanium aluminum alloys can be improved greatly by addition of Al-B master alloy. Both the grain refinement effect and the resisting fading ability are the best among all these methods. The reason of the effect of boron on electrolytic low-titanium aluminum alloys was analyzed.The distribution of titanium in liquid of electrolytic low-titanium aluminum alloy with the holding time is also studied.
