Organic phosphorous compounds and phosphorous polymers have given rise water treatment technology a revolution, and promote the development of water treatment technology greatly. As the heading water treatment products in domestic and international markets at presents, it is necessary to pay attention to the negative influence of these products in environment. With the environmental laws increasing become strictly, the phosphorous products usage will be controlled and be faced with falling into disuse. So the research and development of the low-phosphorous and non-phosphorous and environmental friendly water treatment agents must be the hot topic in near future.Polyepoxysuccinic acid (PES A) has become the hotpot in the area of the research of water treatment agents in domestic and overseas because of its good efficiency at inhibitor on calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate and can be biodegradation and can be used in the system of highly basic and high solid water. However, polyepoxysuccinic molecular structure is major made of carboxyl and cannot inhibit the deposition of calcium phosphate and stabilize zinc salt.In this paper, sodium hydrogen epoxysuccinate has been produced and its crystal could precipitate at the same time by oxidation maleic anhydride with hydrogen peroxide in the system of alcohol-water in the presence of catalyst-sodium tungstate at first and its structure was characterized. The sodium 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl sulfonate has been synthesized by epichlorohydrin react on sodium hydrogen sulfite, then we could get sodium 2,3-epoxypropylsulfonate by sodium 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropylsulfonate react on sodium hydroxide, finally, 2,3-epoxysuccinic acid-2,3-epoxypropylsulfonic acid copolymer(PECS) has been produced by copolymerization in the presence of the initiator-lithium hydroxide. The copolymer's structure was confirmed by IR and 'HNMR and the molecular weight is between 300-930 which was determined by electrospray ionization mass spectrographic analysis. The optimal reaction condition received after series of tests under different reaction condition, the molar ratio of the sodium hydrogen epoxysuccinate and sodium 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropylsulfonate was about 1:1, the reaction temperature was about 80, lOh was the optimal reaction time and the best number of initiatorwas under the control of 5%.A series of PESC were synthesized under different polymeric condition and theirs performance of inhibitor dispersion and corrosion inhibitor were evaluated by static test and compare with PESA. The conclusions are deduced as follow. (1) The PECS has a lower calcium carbonate scale inhibition efficient than PESA. The calcium carbonate scale inhibition efficiency of a series of PECS were 65.32%, 77.49%. 83.04%. 86.52%, 90.19% when their concentration in aqueous system was 20 mg/L and its scale inhibition efficiency improved as the molar ratio of the sodium hydrogen epoxysuccinate and sodium 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropylsulfonate increased. The best molar ratio was about 3:1 and when the concentration of PECS was lOmg/L in aqueous system at the molar ratio the scale inhibition efficiency was 87.07%, just as the calcium carbonate scale inhibition of PESA at the same concentration. (2) The capacity of PECS in calcium phosphate precipitation inhibition has improved compare with epoxysuccinic acid. The calcium phosphate precipitation inhibition of a series of PECS-PECS9 were 87.02?. 81.27%. 82.39%. 62.51%, 36.80%. (3) The copolymer's capacity in calcium sulfate inhibition can meet our demand. The calcium sulfate inhibition efficiency of series of PECS5-PECS9 were 92.15%, 92.33%, 96.22%> 96.04%, 97.01% when its concentration was lOmg/L in aqueous system.(4) At present polymeric condition, the capacity of PECS has improved to some extent in zinc salt precipitation inhibition and ferric oxide dispersion compare with PESA.In addition, PECS has both anticorrosion performance and anodic corrosion properties, which were confirmed by the experiment of polarization curves measurement and weight loss method.
