This paper analyses main facts that influence the caving and drawing characteristics of top-coal, such as underground deep , intensity and joint crack of coal seam ; layer relations , thickness and intensity of rock parting . According to the caving and drawing characteristics of top-coal , classify top-coal with classification of combining numerical value with experience .Comprehensive surveying three facts that influence the stability of stratum , such as intensity , slice height and joint crack interval of stratum , classify immediate roof and main roof with the method of stratum quality index .According to classification criterion of top-coal and roof , research and produce classification system of roof and top-coal in fully-mechanized top-coal caving face .Combine top-coal classification with roof classification for the first time, which make up the inadequate of former classification program . This is the distinguish feature of classification system . And study the classification system application in diagnosing the caving and drawing characteristics of top-coal , choosing support and designing drawing mechanism . The classification system provides theory basis for choosing coal-mining system and roof control design in fully-mechanized top-coal caving face .
