In recent years, due to the development of economy and the improvement of personal living environment, there has been increasing concern over indoor air quality. Indoor synthetic building materials emit a large number of volatile organic compounds (VOC) and deteriorate indoor air quality badly. Using air cleaner to get rid of VOC is an effective way to promote air quality. During this subject study, some research has been carried out to optimize the air quality of certain occupied zone. It includes: how the source/sink location affects indoor contaminant distribution, and how to estimate VOC distribution.First, in order to analyze the indoor flow field and contaminant distribution, a coupled algorithm based on CFD is provided. It is universe and accurate, and fit to research the indoor concentration distribution of contaminant under different flow patterns. Applying the CFD coupled algorithm, simulation on residence and office has been carried out and typical flow patter has been epitomized. We also draw the conclusion on how to reach better air quality of a certain occupied zone by adjusting the location of an air cleaner.Secondly, in order to analyze the affect of positon of sources on indoor contaminant concentration, a simplified algorithm based on CFD is provided, which calculate the zonal concentration according to mass conservation principle and the data of flow field calculated by CFD. Applying the simplified algorithm based on CFD, some research has been carried out to optimize the air quality of certain occupied zone by adjusting the positon of sources.In the end, aim to some special case in engineering application, a simplified algorithm based on zonal model is provided. Compared to CFD, the simplified algorithm based on zonal model needs less number of cell and iteration, and has certain precision.
