The technology of plasma powder deposition manufacturing metal part or prototyping directly and rapidly (PDM) is one of the most important developments on RP. PDM which integrates plasma beam, laser beam, new material, computer, CNC and other technology is a creative and significant study, so it has important study worthiness on the field of RP. Our group studies the technology of PDM firstly inland. The laser surface finishing system for PDM is explored in this paper. The technology of laser cutting and laser gasification finish is brought in RPM for the first time. In this paper, on the basic study of the laser process theory, the surface quality of part processed by laser on different laser parameters was mainly studied. Subsequently the technology base using laser cutting and laser surface finishing to manufacture metal part or prototyping directly and rapidly was researched and discussed. Finally the laser finishing system rudiment is designed and developed.In this paper the main work is of the two parts. The one is designing and assembling laser finishing system. The other one is the experimental study of laser cutting and laser finishing. A laser apparatus of SOS 250WQSS from the Great Britain's famous S.O.S. company was choiced to work. Then the optical mission system was designed and assembled. Through designing laser process path and arithmetic of CNC, a laser control soft system has been finished partly. Through systematic experimental study and analyzing the effects of the main laser parameters such as laser power,scan speed, frequency of Q switch, gas pressure on the finish quality on laser cutting and laser surface finishing, a suitable process conditions were obtained.On the base of previous study, through this study, a laser finish system rudiment on the CNC machine tool was established. Through systematic experimental study, the effects of different laser parameters on laser process metal part were exploreded, and much more importance experiment data were gained. The technical base of PDM which can obtain smooth surface of a high temperature alloy part has benn established throughout this study.
