Polychlorinated Biphenyls (simply named PCBs), PCBs are mixtures of synthetic organic chemicals with the same basic chemical structure and similar physical properties. They have 209 congeners. Their chemist character is stability and difficult to decompose, they are the worldwide pollutions.Due to their non-flammability, chemical stability, high boiling point and electrical insulating properties, PCBs were used in hundreds of industrial and commercial applications including electrical, heat transfer, and hydraulic equipment.Althogh they have been no longer made or used, by a lot of ways, finally parts of them still in our environment, especially in the soil/sediment and tissue. They are the most important polluting organic compounds in the world.After the research of the toxicity of PCBs, the results showed that the coplanar PCBs is the most toxicity congeners in all of them, named Dioxin-like PCBs. It made us more and more need the analytical method of PCBs congeners.Because of the similar physical properties, the separation of 209PCBs in a column of by chromatogram is difficult. By now, there is not a method can separate the 209 congeners completely, especially for the complexity matrix. There is no standard method for individual PCBs (over 40 congeners) in soil/sediment/tissue samples.This paper describes a method can quantify 44 congeners (include most of the dixion-like PCBs) in the soil/sediment/tissue samples. The samples will be extracted by soxlete equipment, analyzed by a dual column-ECD gas chromatogram system.For the application, this paper try to investigate the levels of Total PCBs in Minjiang river around the city of Chengdu, it is still empty in this field, this research work analysis the Total PCBs in the water samples, and find out the patten of the Aroclors in these samples. The samples are taken from three positions on the river, they are Dujiangyan\Daanjie\Huanglongxi, the Daanjie is in the city area.the result of this paper is the concentrations of Daanjie is higher than Huanglongxi,and the concentration of Dujiangyan is the lowest.it means that the industry of Chgengdu city has a lot of effects to the ground water.
