| The upsurge of the steel and mining investment has risen in the whole country these years. How to properly make mining area plans based on the sustainable development is a great subject in the mining industry development.There are many differences between the mining area planning under the market-directed economy and traditional planning under planned economy in the purpose, meaning, principle, content, and methods of planning. With the sustainable development theory and planning theory summarized and studied, this paper has formed a theoretical system of mining area planning. The theory is referentially valuable to guide the mining area planning, reduce the blindness of mining area construction and improve the sustainable development ability.The mining area planning is a subject that is affected by the mineral deposit, characteristic of mineral, mine geographical position, regional economy, macroeconomics and the supply chain. The emphases of planning are not the same in different mining areas. However, the rational production scale is a general problem and crucial content of mining area planning, and it concerns the investment, risk and sustainable development ability of the mining area.The production scale should consider the technology and the sustainable development, and it is directly relevant to the relation of supply, demand and the mineral products market price. This paper studies the demand of the mineral products according to the economics principle and the econometrics methods. At the same time it predicts the demands of iron ore in the following several years using tools such as SPSS, Matlab etc. Base on this, the change-price production scale models can be confirmed. It has certain referential value to the resource industry.Finally, the mining area planning methods are used to decide the product structure, rational scale, and the future direction of Gushan mining Ltd. It provides rational suggestions to support the decision-making of enterprises.
