The destruction of both structure and quality of normal cement concrete usually occurs due to its corrosion so that all kinds of methods including steel net, enforcing polymer materials and so on are used in order to decrease the corrosion of concrete with time and retard the pace of its destruction. The concrete adding a small amount of polymer emulsion such as Polyacrylate, Poly(Styrene-Butadiene)(SB) and Poly(Ethylene-Vinyl acetate) (EVA) exhibits its excellent properties including anti-corrosion, toughness, water-resistance, high-density, conglutination, intensity and anti-freeze, etc. Specially, SB latex has been regarded as one of the most important additives for the concrete due to its excellent quality and low price. Recently, the use of the cement concrete enhanced by polymer emulsion has been gradually acceptable so that a rapid increase in such market was obviously seen. In this article, the preparation and characterization of SB latex exclusively used in the cement concrete area was developed, and the properties of the concrete adding SB latex produced above was determined and the enhanced mechanism of the composite of cement concrete and SB was discussed. As a result, the special SB latexes with small particle size, narrow particle size distribution and good stability were successfully produced in 2M2 pilot plant. The contents of this article are as follows:Chapter 1 mainly introduced the recent development of the technology of SB polymerization and the application of SB latex as polymer additive for the concrete. Moreover, the detailed research plan was proposed.Chapter 2 emphatically studied the technology and influencing rule of various factors of the production of SB latex exclusively used in the cement concrete area. The effects of the concentration of the complex of two emulsifiers, the amount of third functional monomer and the seed particle size and its distribution were mainly examined. The optimum technological parameters and conditions have been obtained. As a result, the good reproduction of the preparation of SB latexes was observed in 2M2 pilot plant, which had small particle size, narrow particle size distribution and good stability.Chapter 3 studied the applied propertied of SB latex as the additive of concrete. Thestrength of compression, the intensity of anti-flex and impermeability as well as conglutination was emphatically examined. The experimental results showed that the strength of compression, the intensity of anti-flex and impermeability of the concrete adding 12wt% present SB latex was increased by about 20%, 15% and 66%, respectively. Furthermore, its other properties of the concrete mentioned above were efficiently modified yet. The optimum ratios of polymer to cement and water to cement as well as the optimum condition of cure were obtained. In addition, the related effect of the emulsifier system, SB latex stability and the concrete containing SB latex was discussed. Chapter 4 summarized the research work of this article.
