This article prepares some Zn-Al(ZA20) powders with the method of ultrasonic atomizing quick solidification. Make Zn-Al powders combine with the surface of Mg alloy AK63 using cold spraying. The article analysizes the microstructure of the coating and tests its mechanical properties. It also discusses the abrasive and corrosion behaviors of ZA20 coating. Results show: After cold spraying, in the microstructure of ZA20,Zn and Al are well-distributed, and no segregated phases exist; the coating and matrix combines well; hardness of coating is much higher than the matrix and it is also three times as that of matrix. Comparing three alloys, liquid extrusion AZ91D Mg alloy, solid extrusion Mg alloy and Zn-Al coating, the last one has the best abrasive resistance. The main abrasive failure of Mg alloy is grain-abrasion. The main abrasive failure of Zn-Al coating is adhesive abrasion and corrosion abrasion. During the neutral Salt-spray corrosive experiment, Zn-Al coating has good corrosive resistance as the matrix is protected by the coating.
