Propeller is a critical part of crystallizer, the geometry shape anddimension of which determine the flow field in the crystallizer. Thetraditional manufacturing method of propellers is basically handoperations requiring considerable skill, time and effort. Therefore, theCAD/CAM technologies for manufacturing propeller are investigated inthis research. This paper focuses on the theories and method of CADparameter modeling, the process planning and numeric-control machiningtechnology of propeller. On the basis of aforementioned study the CADparameter modeling system for propeller is developed, and completednumeric-control machining for propeller in the type of DMC2600five-axis numeric-control machine tool. The major content of this paper issummed as follow:1. The present status and trends in design and manufacture of propeller, technology of CAD/CAM and numeric-control machining technology of free-form surface are reviewed. The contents and goals of the project are put forward.2. This article studies the calculation of tool path on curved face,the analysis of process error and the methods of error repair in five-axis numeric-control machining.3. Gives a study of CAD parameter modeling technique, basing on the twice development technique for CAD/CAM business system--- Unigraphics, using the VC++ and the language of UG Grip realizes with CAD parameter modeling technique, realizes to provide the data model for the CAM.4. Studies the problem of the craft programming to process for propeller in five-axis numeric-control machining, giving the manufacture of the semi-finished product, the choice of the knife, the carve of machining area, the knife track programming of propeller leaf ,the confirmation and optimization of knife-axis obliquity,the calculation method of cutting length per step and row spacing and knife diametral.5. Achieves the CAM numeric-control process for the Φ1300mm propeller in the type of DMC2600SH five-axis numeric-control machine tool, getting the qualified product, for new industry crystal equipments industrialization provides to guarantee.
