The advances of Lake Hydrodynamics and water quality models were reviewed based on the previous study achievements. The 2-D hydrodynamic model and water quality model for Bositeng Lake which is located in Xinjiang Autonomous Region was established according to the characteristics of hydraulics, meteorological conditions and aquatic environment of inland lakes. The finite element method was use to discrete hydrodynamic equations and the discrete function was solved by the alternative directions ADI. Based on numerical simulation to Bositeng Lake, the impacts of different wind fields, hydrological conditions and schemes of water resources regulation on the lake current and spatial distribution of salinity concentration were studied and predicted. And the simulation results indicated that wind field is main factor which can influence spatial distribution of lake current and salinity. Inflow and outflow are the secondary factors. Under the condition of no wind, inflow and outflow have relatively large effects on current and salinity distribution near to inlet. Water level almost has no effect on circulation current structure of the lake and distribution of salinity. Development and utilization of water resources will impact on the lake environment to some extent. Therefore, wind force, wind direction, inflow and outflow, and other factors should be considered in the design of hydraulic structure.
