With the implementation of the Western Development Strategy, ShenDong Mining Field with Abundant coal resources has been an important base of energy in our country and has extensive market. The mining practice of ShenDong Mining field indicates: the water inrush and sand inrush accident occurred for the considerable cracks formed by violent ground behavior and the especial geological environment, which influence and restrain the full development of modern high production and effective mine seriously. In order to solve the water inrush and sand inrush disaster and release coal resource, we must prevent and cure the disaster of water inrush and sand inrush. In this paper, based on the analysis of geological characters, the ground pressure behavior and the basic law of roof weighting in shallow seam, the generation mechanism of water inrush and sand inrush is researched. By simulated experiments of the thick unconsolidated formation breaking down, the conclusion that the water inrush and sand inrush disaster is different from sand break is reached. The theoretical formula of water inrush and sand inrush generation condition was founded by analyzing the critical condition of water inrush and sand inrush according to sediment transport mechanics theory and the cove character of thick sand formation. Through simulated experiments and testing data fitting, the relationship between hydraulic height and quantity of sand inrush, between crack width and quantum of sand inrush are discussed. The influence degree of hydraulic height and crack width to quantum of sand inrush are compared and then it is obtained that hydraulic height is the key control factor. The water inrush and sand inrush control measure that debase hydraulic height by work face drainage and field of goaf drainage which using littlie angle of stope is given based on that hydraulic height is the key control factor. And the water inrush and sand inrush control measure is given that control turning of bedrock when full thick roof cut down, based on the especial characteristic of shallow coal seam roof break in ShenDong Mining Field. Thus the theoretical reference for prediction of water inrush and sand inrush was offered.
