In this paper, the method of meliorating the Al series (Al, mixed Al/Cu, Al/Fe,Al/Zr, Al/Ti) PILCs catalysts by SO42 was investigated. Using the esterification of acetic acid with n-butanol as a probe reaction, the investigation of the catalyst activity was carried out. The optimum SO42- meliorating conditions of the Al series PILCs were achieved. A complete characterization of the catalysts was carried out by XRD, FT-IR, BET, pore diameter distribution, DTA and NH3-TPD studies. The reusability and regeneration method of the catalyst were studied.The application research of the catalysts in catalysing the synthesis of esters such as butyl formicate were carried out, too. The results showed that after meliorated by SO42-, the activities of the catalysts were enhanced rapidly, the conversion of acetic acid from 56.2% to 93.4%, and the catalysts were provided with solid superacid structure. Their specific surface areas were 169216m2/g and they had excellent thermal stabilities(>500℃). The catalysts were a kind of uniform mesoporous catalyst materials. They had an excellent selectivity, good reusability and regeneration ability. The performance of the catalysts was good in catalysing the synthesis of n-butyl formicate, n-butyl gallate, methyl laurate, methyl stearae, too.
