Recently, Much attention has been put on the polymer/montmorillonite (MMT) nanocomposites owing to it excellent properties. In this thesis, Polypropylene(PP) and EPDM was chose and PP/MMT and PP/EPDM/MMT nanocomposites had been prepared successfully via melt intercalation. The structure and mechanical properties were investigated. Three parts were included in this thesis.1. PP/MMT nanocomposites were prepared by melt intercalation, the structure and crystallization behavior of nanocomposites were investigated by XRD, TEM and DSC instruments, and the mechanical properties were analysised. The results of XRD and TEM indicated that the chains of polymer have intercalated into the layers of montmorillonite and intercalated nanocomposites have been made. Mechanical properties showed that the addition of grafter could enhance the properties of nanocomposites, but little effect did monmoriilonite do on the composites in low content. The addition of grafter and montmorillonite increased the temperature of crystallization of Polypropylene.2. PP/EPDM/MMT nanocomposites were prepared by melt intercalation, XRD, TEM and DSC instruments were also used to investigate the structure and crystallization behavior of nanocomposites, and intercalated nanocomposites of PP/EPDM/MMT have been made. Choose different order to put in the materials make the mechanical properties of nanocomposites change notable, in a word, the addition of grafters and montmorillonites increased the mechanical properties of PP/EPDM alloys.3. New method was used to deal with montmorillonite, and modified organic-montmorillonite has been made, analysis of nanocomposites that were made by melt blend of this montmorillonite and resin show that better intercalation and mechanical properties have been acquired than those nanocomposites made by resin and montmorillonite which is modified by alkyl quaternary ammonium salts.
