Exploitation And Application On EPS Casting Binder

Expanded Polystyrene (abbreviated as EPS ) is one of the plastics with most widely application in the world. Most EPS is disposable, and millions tons "White Pollution" can not be degradated in environment as well as be eliminated the effect of white pollution, on environment with biochemical technology. On the other hand, it is a waste of invaluable resource. In this way, the large amount piled up abolished EPS and recycled technology becomes well known in all the world.In this paper, by taking EPS emulsion as main raw material, a new casting binder was developed with modification method. EPS water-borne property by modification is fine, and available for the casting binder. The technology process was deeply studied and property of the casting sand with EPS emulsion binder was analyzed and studied also. It is important that the binder with high lustrous but has no phenol, aldehyde, sulphur, nitrogen and will not release harmful gas, such as SO2, N2O, etc. during pouring. The main contents and results are as follows :The first, molecular structures, character of the pyrolysis and the mechanism of preventing the casting's defect of burn-on of the EPS were analyzed and studied , based on this the EPS solution was emulsified and modified according to the characteristic of colloid chemistry. The ingredient and technology process of EPS solution were optimized by the experiments under orthogonal designs. The adhesion of EPS solution and environmental question were also studied .The second, by means of the performance tests of the casing sand with EPS solution binder such as strength, gas evolution, collapsibility and regeneration, the casting technological properties of the casting binder was studied systemically.Finally, the sand moulding with this new type of casting binder was used to make a gray iron casting. The test of pouring showed that this binder had good collapsibility and a smooth casting surface, and was worthy of application.
