In the process of NC machining complex surface, there is error between interpolation tool path and theoretic tool path, which lead to the error between actual surface and theoretic surface. This paper solved the problem of how to analysis and control the programming error when machining complex surface, Based on the theory of spatial engagement, this paper present an algorithm of simulating complex surface, which is called velocity decomposed method. Firstly, according to the theory of point-contacted spatial engagement and envelope machining, the simulating algorithm is discussed in detail, then illuminated the process of simulating, take helicoids that machined with section envelope method as an example, explained the application process of this simulating method. The characteristic of the algorithm proposed in this paper is that it converted the complicated problem of simulating into solving non-linear equation, thus simplified the simulating process. Besides, this paper also presented the model of normal error between actual surface and theoretic surface and probed into the calculating method of normal error. At last, a representative model is selected in this paper, using the program of this model, validated the simulating method of complex surface and the error analysis method. This paper probed into the ideology and method of complex surface simulating and error analysis, the principle is comparatively simple and easy to be understood, as well as convenient to calculate, avoiding the various disadvantages of mass calculation. Actual surface that generated by cutter can be simulated in this paper, then compare the theoretic surface with it and calculate the normal error. This method improved the precision and credibility of error analysis compared with the former one, which acquired the surface's error indirectly through the error of the tool-path.
