As a key sub-problem of process synthesis, the synthesis of reactor network is very important for the development and design of process system. It also has great effect to the environment because most pollution sources are resulted from reaction process. In addition, compared with the development of other sub-problems such as synthesis of heat exchanger network and separation sequence, it is still on its younger stage. So it is not only the need of continuous progress policy but also the whole process synthesis. So far, much work in this field has been done and valuable progress has been obtained. However, due to its complexity, the synthesis of reactor network still needs to be researched further.Besides the summary of previous work, the major contents of this paper are as follows.1. According to different reaction systems, number of feeds, operation conditions and number of objective functions, a method to categorize reactor network synthesis was proposed. Based on substituting many CSTRs for the other kinds of reactors, a general reactor network model was presented. Then a nonlinear programming problem of reactor network synthesis was formulated, which can be solved easier because it has not any differential equation.2. Based on the general reactor model, GAMS and Genetic Arithmetic (GA) were used respectively to solve the problem of reactor network synthesis. The results show that both GMAS and GA can get preferable solution, whereas GAMS is more efficient than GA. In addition, the study of typical complex reaction...
