DuPont Dow chemical company developed the POE Engage and EPDM Nordel IP with confined geometry configuration (CGC) catalyst and INSITETM technology, and these two kinds of new-type thermal-plastic polyolefin elastomer had controlled structures and excellent mechanical and weather resistance and processing properties. Using POE Engage 8150,8003 and EPDM Nordel IP3745, 3722, the mechanical and rheological properties of POE/nano-CaCO3 system used as thermal-plastic elastomer materials, the mechanical, rheological and crystallizing properties of system of PP toughened by POE, EPDM, and nano-CaCO3, and vulcanizingsystem of POE and EPDM used as medium voltage cable insulation were all investigated.First, the results showed that the mechanical and rheological properties of POE developed by CGCT with MAO metal catalyst remained good after filled with 40 phr nano-CaCO3. When filled little (<10 phr), nano-CaCO3 can reinforce the system. With the content of CaCO3 increasing, tensile strength first increased and then dropped, elongation at break decreased, 100% tensile modulus and Shore A hardness increased and impact resilience got weaker. When nano-CaCO3 increased to 40 phr, the tensile strength was about 10.5MPa and the elongation at break was larger than 770%, and the system remained good elastomer. In addition, the system could be easily processed properties, and the rheological behavior changed little with 40 phr CaCO3.
