Solvent extraction was one of the most important working procedure on oil refining industry and N-formylmorpholine was thought highly of excellent qualities as the solvent for extraction all over the world. The paper studied thoroughly the current synthesizing techniques for producing N-formylmorpholine and worked out the technique and acquired effective data for industry manufacture. The paper studied carefully the binary and ternary system including N-formylmorpholine and predicted the important phase equilibrium parameters through experiments and theory models that were not published before.The paper studied synthesizing technique for producing N-formylmorpholine (NFM) by the reaction between morpholine and formic acid. Better water remover was selected which controlled experiment temperature. The influence of reaction conditions on reaction result is examined and the optimum technological conditions are obtained as followed: molar ratio of morpholine to formic acid 1:0.97, reaction temperature 90100℃ and reaction time 8.5h. The total recovery rate of N-formylmorpholine was 91.5% on the morpholine.Based on analysis of N-formylmorpholine groups which was divided into four groups: CH2, CNH2, CHO, CH2OCH2. Using the phase equilibrium experiments data fitted the new interaction parameters of UNIFAC model and predicted the phase equilibrium data of binary and ternary system including N-formylmorpholine.
