| In this thesis, the author tried adopting surface-active monomer (Surfmer) in the concentrated emulsion polymerization to produce clean PS polymer.Under three basic organic reactions, a novel anionic surfmer named CS-1 were prepared and was tested by FT-IR,; C13 NMR and element analysis . Electronic conductivity meter determined the surface activity such as CMC.Two kinds of polymerizations were carried out with CS-1 surfmer. One was solution polymerzation of CS-1 alone, to determine self-polymerization moiety and the other was the concentrated emulsion polymerization of styrene in presence of CS-1. The relationship between conversion and the polymerization time, the analysis of GPC with samples acquired in the process of polymerization and the atomic absorption spectrum were all used to study the moiety and the usage efficiency of surfmer CS-1.The research shows that surfmer CS-1 was a mixture. Element analysis firmed the theoretical content of each element content. Study also shows that surfmer CS-1 had lower CMC (critical micelle concentration 1.2g/100ml H2o), and the system used with CS-1 was more stable.CS-1 may participate in the concentrated emulsion polymerization of styrene and GPC research indicated that surfmer CS-1/St favored to copolymerize than the homopolymerzation of styrene at the initial stage. Two double bonds of CS-1 enhanced the ability of copolymerization onthe micelle surface while micro gel formed at the same time. With the increase of the concentration of CS-1, the larger amount of micro gel produced and the usage efficiency decreased for higher concentration leading to homopolymerization of CS-1.As a contrast to CS-1, to -sodium undecylenate (SUA) were used in concentrated emulsion polymerization of styrene. Study showed that SUA could copolymerize with styrene while the copolymer dissolves in alcohol and water mixture easily, resulting in the lower usage efficiency of SUA. On the respect of surface polarity, contact angle were determined giving evidences refuting SUA as a alternative to produce clean concentrated emulsion polymer PS.In this thesis, particle size and its distribution were investigated with the use of surfmer CS-1. The concentration of CS-1 had great influence on the particle size and distribution. Higher Concentration is no good for particle distribution and CS-1 usage efficiency. Considering the surfmer usage efficiency, at 45~65℃, Φ=0.8~0.85, monodisperse and clean particles range 150~250nm were prepared. At the final part of the thesis, the author introduced shell-favored mechanism, which supported by GPC and TEM. Certain theory future and practical use are expected.concentrated emulsions; core-shell; copolymerMonodisperse particle, surfmer... |
